About the programme

Under the EU STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform) revision of the FENG programme, NCBR runs two parallel defence R&D competitions: Path A funds industrial research and development work on innovative and breakthrough defence technologies with economic potential, while Path B funds research that reduces strategic dependencies and vulnerabilities in EU defence technology supply chains. The programme change was approved by European Commission decision C(2025) 3518, and call criteria were published in July 2026.

Why it matters

First large FENG-funded grant stream explicitly for defence R&D, open to single companies (no international consortium needed) with tickets up to PLN 140 million. A rare chance to fund defence R&D from EU cohesion money.
