About the programme

PERUN is NCBR's flagship defence R&D programme, run with the Ministry of National Defence as the successor to the SZAFIR programme, with a planned multi-year allocation of PLN 3 billion.

  • The first competition (1/PERUN/2023) closed in January 2024 and was resolved in stages through early 2026, with 29 projects contracted for a combined PLN 723.8 million.
  • Projects fall into two groups: key materials, software and advanced-system technologies (up to TRL 9) and demonstrators of new weapons and military equipment (TRL 6).
  • No second competition had been announced as of August 2026.

Why it matters

This is the largest national grant pipeline for Polish defence R&D, funding up to 100% of costs on MON-defined topics. Companies planning defence R&D should track NCBR announcements for the next competition round.
