Innovation Impact Challenge (formerly SBIR) (IIC)

About the programme

The Innovation Impact Challenge is the renamed Dutch SBIR scheme: ministries commission companies through phased innovation competitions (feasibility, then prototype development) run by RVO. The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Economic Affairs have used it for defence and security topics such as Automated Vulnerability Research and cryptocommunication, and new defence-related challenges are published periodically on the RVO site.

Why it matters

Government-commissioned development contracts rather than subsidies: the state is the launching customer, which de-risks early product development for defence and security SMEs.
