About the programme

FORTE is Austria's national defence research programme, the first of its kind in the country, financed by the Federal Ministry of Finance under programme responsibility shared with the Ministry of Defence and administered by FFG. It funds cooperative R&D projects (up to EUR 2 million, up to 85% funding, maximum 24 months) and R&D services (up to EUR 500,000 at up to 100%) in core military areas excluded from the civil KIRAS security programme. The 2026 call ran from 6 October 2025 to 6 March 2026.

Why it matters

The only Austrian channel for company-facing military R&D funding, with high funding rates for firms that team with a research institution.
