About the programme

Launched in 2021 at the initiative of the AID and managed by Bpifrance, the Fonds Innovation Défense takes equity stakes in companies whose dual civil-military technologies matter to defence systems.

  • Priority themes are transversal technologies such as energy, quantum, information technologies including AI, electronics and components, materials, and health and human factors.
  • It invests from seed through growth rounds and holds a portfolio of French dual-use startups.

Why it matters

State-backed equity that signals defence-customer interest without a grant process, covering the seed-to-growth range where French dual-use startups typically struggle to raise. Complementary to RAPID grants.
